Steve Andrews Live Ready And Untamed At 12 Bar Club
Here is a live performance from Steven Andrews at the legendary 12 Bar Club in London. Steven understands how a “performance” should be. People go out to live performances because they want a performance. If they wanted to just listen to the music that would be easy just sitting at home with a CD or record. But Steven gives the full show, you get the full wak!
Steve Andrews is a singer-songwriter and author from Cardiff, now based in Portugal. He’s also known as the Bard of Ely. He’s performed at the Green Man and Glastonbury Festivals and was an MC at both events. In 2017, he was a finalist in the Best Solo Act category of the Cardiff Music Awards, and was featured on the Britain’s Got Talent TV show.
12 Bar Club Set List and Notes right from the horses (Steve Andrews) keyboard!
1: “Superhero”
I often open with this song because it gets audience participation because I ask everyone to “Give me a Yee-hah!” It is a fun Country-influenced ditty. And I am a fan of superheroes. I used to collect the DC Comics. Batman and Arrow are my favorites.
2: “Kingfisher”
Popular with Pagans because it has a mention for “Queen of the May.” I have often performed it at Gorsedds for Beltane and Avebury. The late Pixi Morgan added the song to his busking repertoire.
3: “Reality Song”
This usually inspires audience participation, the strangest of which was some members of my audience dancing in their seats but with a Kossack vibe.
4: “Jungle Love”
In 1989 it was included on Meltdown The Album on Chariot Records and got reviewed in Q Magazine, where Paul Davies called it a “highlight” of the album and dubbed it “swamp rock.” “Jungle Love” was reissued in 1997 on a vinyl limited edition EP entitled Mask on Pink Lemon Records from Germany.
5: “Peter”
A serious song about a cross-dressing musician friend of mine who in the 1970s was known as “Piss-off-Pete.” He was an “acid casualty,” suffered from schizophrenia and ended up sectioned. \
6: “Girl Singer”
This one is basically about how difficult it can be for female singer-songwriters to find success in a male-dominated business.
7: “Quicksilver Morning”
One of the first songs I ever wrote. I used to perform this at folk clubs in Cardiff in the early 1970s. It features me playing the guitar as a drummed instrument. This live performance at the 12 Bar was the third time I had played it in nine years.
8: “A Real Love and Communication”
A song calling for peace. There have been many versions and many highlights in the ongoing story of this song.
9: “UFO Song”
A popular part of my live performance for many years was when I introduced the audience to my “spaceship.” It was actually a toy but became known as “The Mothership.” Sadly I lost The Mothership while traveling. Or did it de-materialize?
10: “King Arthur’s Coming”
This song was written about Druid leader and eco-warrior King Arthur Uther Pendragon. I was once knighted by him as a Quest Knight and Bard of his Druid Order. Arthur joined me on stage at the 12 Bar Club. Arthur stands as an Independent candidate in the elections in Salisbury. Vote king Arthur!
11: “Sloop John B”
My cover of this song which was a hit for the Beach Boys.
12: “Stand By Me”
My cover of this classic song. When I perform “Stand By Me” I encourage the audience to join me. I performed this for Britain’s Got Talent in 2017 but Simon Cowell freaked out when he saw so many people joining me on stage.
