Description
Lazenby Live At 12 Bar Club, London
Lazenby’s founding members; Sarah Lazenby (Sweetooth) and Nick Lockwood (Vitamin Z) are joined by Steve Kemp-King on bass at the legendary 12 Bar Club in London’s Tin Pan Alley
Who are Lazenby
Lazenby sound retro yet unpretentiously fresh and modern. Their first EP release, ‘Let Me Live’, brought about a new breed of alternative soul. While the music is deliberately left under-produced and dirty with raw edges intact, the vocals from Lazenby produce moments of passion mixed with breathless intensity.
Sarah is a modern day icon – a magnetic, domineering lead singer who can hold you in the palm of her hand but can just as easily ditch you to the curb. It is this, combined with outstanding musicianship and unpredictable dynamics, that have earned Lazenby a reputation as the best live act around, having won over a varied fan-base that includes everyone from indie kids through to drag queens.
They have been media darlings after being ‘Critics Choice’ at the Edinburgh Festival for two years in a row in early 2000 as well as earning a place on the ‘Best Of In The City’ compilation and the Virgin ‘Artist Rising’ CD. They were the only unsigned act at The O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park to feature on the MTV coverage of the event, a performance that earned the band a review in the Guardian describing them as “Class”. As well as being masters of the intimate gig, they are equally impressive on a larger stage having performed at festivals across Europe including V Festival (UK), Montreux (Switzerland), Sudoeste (Portugal), the Cannes Film Festival MTV party and countless others.
In 2008 LAZENBY released “The Loft Years”
Here It seems Lazenby were instigated by Arctic Monkeys manager Geoff Barradale as they made a name for themselves amongst the style cognoscenti. They’ve even played in grocery stores like Selfridges. When you look at the cover of the CD you will discover Sarah Lazenby’s fashionable credentials. Sarah Lazenby’s vocals remind one of Roislin Murphy and Lazenby could well be a more rocked up version of Moloko.
No one can be sure whether Sarah wants to be taken seriously as one of the great musical fashion divas, or lounge bar chantreuse, or perhaps both.
