Who are Kora Colours
Kora Colours is led by Ravi Freeman whose music is the result of a lifetime exploring the edges of music through songwriting and world music.
His life is a journey. The journey has taken him from India to the indigenous musical and spiritual culture of The Amazon. Ravi plays open tuned guitar, is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and the longest established European players of the kora (West African harp)
Ravi has also worked with artists such as Nigel Kennedy, Jon Lord, Phil Manzanera, Baaba Maal, Dr John, Tarun Bhattacharya, Ronu Majumdar and Marlui Miranda.
Ravi has been bringing his kora (West African harp) to the delight of many since the mid-eighties. He has live & recorded projects including Neuneneu (Humanity) with the Mehenaku Amazonian Indians and Marlui Miranda.
With his band he has released over 20 CDs including Songs For The Golden Age , The Overtone Choir plus solo performances and duet projects with shakuhachi player Adrian Freedman , mantra singer Sudha and Brazilian legend Marlui Miranda
Perfomances have included:
Festivals: WOMAD, Festival Musicale del Mediterraneo, Sunrise, Off-Grid, Glastonbury Festival, Edinburgh International Harp Festival, Shetland, Belfast and Cork Folk Festivals, Glasgow Mayfest. Also Hull Jazz Festival, Lamer Tree, Cabo Verde Jazz Festival, Westport Art Festival, Festival of World Cultures. He also played a prestigious solo performance series in Curitiba, Brazil
Venues: Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Eden Project, British Library, Dartington Hall, Band on the Wall, Rosin Dubh, Wheelans (Dublin) and various arts centres (Garter Lane, Ucheldre, Bridport, Exeter, Mwldan) and the legendary 12 Bar Club in London.
