Imelda May came onstage at 12 Bar Club in London, England back on January 17, 2000 as Imelda Clabby. This was all before she became famous. In this rare footage she is seen taking the stage during a Sonny George set, using his band. We have had this concert for some time and 2 songs were released with the UK collector edition. This is the whole set from that day.

This may have been something to showcase Imelda as she was climbing to fame, but the smooth set of Rockabilly really is astounding. Of course Boz Boorer was rocking like there was no tomorrow. His rock’n roll sensibilities shown through and through. Loved his guitar licks and this is what it is all about. One must say the bass was right there and from his Boz’s wife Lyn Boorer. Geoff Mead, as usual, gave a stunning touch of class weaving that slide guitar throughout the songs.
Imelda May singing shines through
Imelda, certainly, shined that night. A total immersion in the rockabilly sensibility. Her roots came from there and you can see the young woman, who just came to London, and yet is instantly at ease on stage with these seasoned rockers. She did not miss a beat and delivered each song with the perfection of a star.
Who is Imelda May
Imelda May, is an Irish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Known primarily as a singer, she also plays the bodhrán, guitar, bass guitar and tambourine. She is known for her musical style of rockabilly revival and has also been compared to female jazz musicians such as Billie Holiday. We have several Imelda May concerts here, including one where she just started with Darrell Higham and these days she is no longer married to Darrell.
