Who is Doug Smith the Guitarist?

Doug Smith is a classically trained guitarist who took up steel string guitar after hearing British legend John Renbourn. Smith is an internationally recognized acoustic guitarist who crafts fine finger-picking art with folk, classical, jazz and contemporary music into a unique, flowing, finger-picking style. It brings back memories of Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, and Alex de Grassi. Doug Smith’s playing style continues to develop after this first appearance at the fabulous 12 Bar Club.

Doug Smith has had a terrific ride sharing a Grammy for the all-acoustic Henry Mancini tribute, “Pink Guitar” in 2005. In 2006 Doug competed with 40 other guitarists from around the world to win the International Fingers-style Guitar Competition held at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas.

Doug Smith in 2007 released “Guitar Parts” on his Solid Air Records. The Finger-picking champion Doug Smith’s CD “Guitar Parts” consisted of 16 tracks with many originals and some covers like the theme of “The Magnificent Seven“.

Doug Smith is a Grammy Award Winner, in 2007 you can hear him playing the big screen in the popular 2007 film August Rush and his original compositions are heard everywhere from NPR to TCM, Martha Stewart and even Good morning America. Even the theme music from Downton Abbey was arranged and performed by Grammy Winner and International Finger-style Guitar Champion, Doug Smith
