Brandy Wood At Acme Underground CMJ
Special Guests Johnny Hickman
Ricks Music Archives is proud to present Brandy Wood Band live from the Acme Underground and part of OnlineTV.com Internet broadcast for MusicTV.com on CMJ Music Marathon week in New York City on Oct 20, 2000.
The guitar player and song writer for the sample song was Bart Lewis and he really wailed on the guitar throughout that song and set! Amazing guitarist reminding me a lot of Keith Richards. Frankly the stage lit up with the whole band. Brandy certainly taking center stage and doing an awesome front for the band. But way back in the darkness came the most amazing keyboards from Rob Clores. The only drawback of small dark clubs is their lack of lighting and/or high risers for the drummers. The camera was at a restricted area because of the crowd but made a pretty historical video of an amazing performance.
I had already been in Cracker a year and a half when that performance happened. I met the guys in Cracker when I was recording my solo record (Alone) at Sound of Music Studio in Richmond, VA in 1999. I got a call a few months later from David Lowery asking if I wanted to audition. I auditioned in NYC and joined the band in March of 2000.- Brandy Wood
OnlineTV.com was taping in the clubs, as always, and captured the live simulcast for the Internet broadcast on MusicTV.com. These original broadcasts have not been seen since 2003 and were stored in Rick Siegel’s Music Archives until now.
Brandy Wood, the fiery haired Virginia waif has her priorities set in a foundation of jazz and blues rock, both textured and alive. Even with a Bachelor’s of Music degree in Jazz Performance, under Mike Richmond, and bass tutorials with Michael Manring, Brandy chooses to pursue the “crossroads” tradition in her quest for authentic musical mileage. Recently returned to her hometown of Richmond, Brandy
Brandy began writing deeply personal songs, with an emphasis on the great songwriting styles of such groups as The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Sam & Dave and Bad Co. Her first live performance of this material caught the attention of David Lowery, and Brandy was asked to join Virgin Records’ recording artists, Cracker. Brandy has toured across the US, Canada and Europe with Cracker, performing on stages with The Counting Crows, Foreigner, Sheryl Crow and Bob Dylan, and is the bassist and female voice on their last two studio albums.
