Al Hughes Plays The Blues At 12 Bar Club, London
Just amazing how much power and energy comes out of this blues crooner. With the smooth ease of a true artist his mastery of the guitar is only matched by the depth of his repertoire both original and legendary. At the 12 Bar Club you don’t just play music, you entertain the audience and join with them. It is an intimate evening with an amazing blues talent.
This performance has many of the songs released in 2001 on his CD “Conversations With The Blues.” For the taster video I choose the song “Silicon Valley Blues” as it exemplifies Al’s ability to write for the times bringing the blues tradition that much closer. Since the set is a good 50+ minutes long I am not doing a set list but there is one tribute to Muddy, my buddy from Chicago, and you will not be disappointed. Waiting 2 decades for this released video from Lost Concerts as they work day and night to save the video tapes from those days.
Who is Al Hughes
Al Hughes is a Scottish singer/songwriter and when he picks up the guitar you are taken into deep blues. Hughes picks, strums and blows (harp) through this set with self-penned numbers that highlight his talents as a natural blues songwriter and some songs from blues greats that influenced him along the trails. Some of the influences may be easy to spot, but Hughes always adds an original musical and/or lyrical twist that makes each song his own.
Hughes talent spans a variety of styles, including blues, soul and jazz. His song “Silicone City Blues” show he has a cool tongue in cheek ability to bring his creations into the present
