These two legendary musicians toured the world and the UK in support of a CD that encompassed more than 50 years of music they created together. This concert is a few seconds short of an hour and has most of the 2000 release on CD by Rollercoaster Records as More Than Sixteen Tons of Bluegrass and Other Fine Stuff, and lots of past material. I loved when they finger picked “Freight Train.” An intimate night where they chat and tell the stories of the songs and their lives and concerts together. This live video is an amazing part of history and certainly worthy of your collections.

Who is Pete Stanley

UK Banjo player Pete Stanley was first taught the banjo by Peggy Seeger, later he developed 3 finger Bluegrass and Clawhammer styles. He is unusual as he played bluegrass style with his fingernails, not fingerpicks. In the 1960s he was in the Tennessee Three (with Dave and Robb Mangunan from California) and, for four years, in a duo with Wizz Jones. Pete Stanley performed, on and off, with Brian Golby. He had been a banjo maker since attending a course at the London School of Furniture (now London Guildhall University). He played both open back and resonator Banjos. A couple of these are seen in this complete show.

One of England’s best-known banjo players, Pete Stanley is known for his unique mellow tone, acquired by using bare fingernails rather than metal fingerpicks. Although he recorded two albums — Banjo Bounce and Picking And Singing — in the ’70s with guitarist and vocalist Roger Knowles, Stanley has made his greatest contribution to music as a skilled banjo builder.

Who is Wizz Jones

The legendary Wizz Jones has been on the scene since the 1960’s. He has made so much music it just can’t be listed. Here at the 12 Bar he came in for the live OnlineTV Internet broadcast by Rick Siegel and just did not disappoint. His command of the guitar is awesome. It is something so many strive for, it rolls out of him like the mountains on the horizon.

Wizz Jones was once described as having ‘a right hand worthy of Broonzy’, referring to the Blues Guitarist Big Bill Broonzy. Most of his recordings from this period are long out of print, but now you get your chance to have this amazing set from the 12 Bar Club!

Raymond Ronald Jones was born in Thornton Heath, Croydon, Surrey England. He is better-known as Wizz Jones and is an English acoustic guitarist, singer and songwriter. He has been performing since the late 1950s and recording from 1965 to the present. He has worked with many of the notable guitarists of the British folk revival, such as Pete Stanley, John Renbourn and Bert Jansch.
