Stella Dallas Live at Bull and Gate
Stella Dallas played many times for the OnlineTV broadcast at the Bull and Gate back when it was a thriving club for upcoming bands. The 2003 show was one of the last we ever broadcast from Bull and Gate and having these guys (and gal) on the broadcast was great. Stella Dallas was a project that evolved out of the Savile Row band, which is also in the archives here.
Stella Dallas was certainly an extraordinary band and the unique sound along with the great vocals. While Austen Hornbrook held lead vocals and guitar it was really nice to see Cathy Harabaras(drummer) adding certain harmonies. I like it when drummers join in the song and I am sure that is why she plays so tight with each tune. With Scott Hasler holding the bass down the band really was a power rock trio that stood on its’ own.
I chose a short taster from the Nov 22, 2002 as that concert really shows off the talent of this band. While all their shows were superb, this particular part caught my attention. The bass is outstanding with some real moments of brilliance. Cathy is consistent with both driving drums and with incredible vocals. Austen was in prime gear with perfect execution of complicated musical gyrations and change-ups. Great performance which shows what all the sets provide.
Who Is Stella Dallas?
Austen Hornbrook
eventually formed a band called Andy & the Other One and he appears on Songs from the bottom Drawer. Austen has also been part of The AM Band.
Cathy Harabaras
Originally from the band Cardiacs (originally Cardiac Arrest) she took some time to play with the band Savile Row. When Savile Row went into hiatus most of the musicians moved to this new group Stella Dallas. Her career has expanded out to encompass being an actress in film and many other bands.
Who is Scott Hasler?
A good guy to know and a powerful bass player.
